What To Do If You’re Unemployed During COVID-19

Ken Coleman is a National Radio Host, Bestselling Author of The Proximity Principle and Ramsey Personality he talked about the four steps to take right now to get hired if you’ve been laid off due to Covid-19.

  1. Get clear on what you want to do. The intersection of these three questions identifies your sweet spot and where you should begin your job search.
    1. What do you do best? These are the daily tasks that everyone knows you can perform at the highest level.
    2. What do you love to do most? This is what you have the most passion and enjoyment for
    3. What results matter to you? This is what fulfills your purpose on a daily basis.
  2. A resume without a relationship is worthless!
    1. Use your web of connections to contact professionals in the field you want to enter.
    2. Ask for a referral or just advice over the phone or zoom chat. Gather as much information as possible about the application process.
    3. This is how you stand out from the pack of thousands of potential applicants- especially in the midst of the current pandemic.
  3. Take more than one job!
    1. You may have to expand your skill set. It may be as simple as using what you already know in a different field.
      1. Examples: Food delivery/ Online Customer Service/ Healthcare Support/ IT Service/ Virtual Education
    2. Swallow some pride and work a weekend or part time side job to help pay the bills.
    3. You may just need to pile up cash while waiting for your industry to re-open.
  4. Operate in a long term mind set.
    1. It’s OK to pivot your career to get through the short term economic period.
    2. Don’t lose sight of your “dream job” or career path just because of this disruption.
    3. Do what you have to do- so later- you can do what you want to do.
