The Cookie Cart provides teens, ages 15 – 18 with lasting and meaningful work, life, and leadership skills through experience and training in an urban nonprofit bakery. Cookie Cart was started by Sister Jean Thuerauf as a way to engage the young people of North Minneapolis in educational and empowering activities. Sister Jean used cookie baking to connect with youth and to give them a safe and engaging space to avoid the crime and violence of the streets. Today, Cookie Cart serves 200 Twin Cities teens.
Cookie Cart is working with community partners to open a Cookie Cart on Saint Paul’s Eastside on Payne Avenue! Watch for updates on Cookie Cart’s website, and come visit us at 946 Payne Ave later this year when we open.
