Ask the Dermatologist: Hyperhidrosis

Here’s a fact of life, everybody sweats. But some people, in fact millions of people, sweat more than your antiperspirant can handle. It’s why we headed to Advanced Dermatology Care to Ask the Dermatologist how to silence the sweat. Twin Cities Live reporter Kelli Hanson found the answer.

Excessive sweating could be an actual medical condition called Hyperhidrosis. It’s defined as excessive and uncontrollable sweating and can be localized or widespread and 5% of world population have this condition.

Hyperhidrosis: treatment options

  • OTC deodorant or antiperspirant
  • Prescription topical solution and wipes (APS), oral (whole body) or injectable medications
  • miraDry: a treatment that was FDA approved in 2011 for the treatment of excessive underarm sweating. It is a noninvasive treatment using electromagnetic energy that targets heat on sweat glands, destroying them. Local anesthesia is used and the skin is cooled during this hour-long procedure. miraDry can reduce sweat by 82%, odor by 89% and some hair growth.

Learn more about miraDry on Wednesday, November 6th at 12:00pm at their White Bear Lake office. There will be complimentary lunch, and attendees will be eligible for additional discounts on the treatment. RSVP by November 4th.
