Being Assertive

Dr. Karin Ryan from Nystrom & Associates is here with ways to empower you to be assertive in your relationships.  There are four main styles of communication and it can be helpful to be aware of them and recognize how you are communicating.

  1. Passive – ignoring your own needs for the needs of others
  2. Aggressive – thinking about your own wants and needs, disrespecting the needs of others
  3. Passive Aggressive – appears passive, but later shows subtle indirect anger later
  4. Assertive – person honors their wants and needs and the wants and needs of others
