Starting Seeds Indoors

Home and Gardening Expert Larry Pfarr wants to help you get a jump on your spring planting, even when the ground is covered by snow! Here is Larry’s list of tips and tricks on getting seeds started indoors!

  • Place in a south face window. Or better yet, use grow lights
  • Clean and sterilize containers to prevent disease problems
  • Wide, shallow containers are best
  • Only use a seed-starting growing medium
  • Most seeds germinate best at temps between 65 and 75 degrees
  • Covering planted seeds with plastic wrap or a grow dome will help
  • Once plants are germinated, provide good air circulation to prevent disease problems
  • If growing in front of a window, turn plants every day
