Local Food Products for a Healthy 2019

So you want to get healthy in 2019? It’s the perfect time to start adding new foods into your routine, and why not support Minnesota food makers it the process. Twin Cities Live reporter Kelli Hanson rounded up food products made right here in the Twin Cities to help you kick off a healthy new year.

1. Northstar Kombucha
This Fermented Probiotic Sparkling Tea was created by Minneapolis couple, Dan and Christina Fisher. Kombucha isn’t new to the food scene, but it is packed with probiotics as well as vitamin B, Enzymes and Organic Acids. 2. Freak Flag Foods
In October Cook Mary Jane Miller was on Twin Cities Live to make her Instant Pot Sausage & Lentil Soup. And her secret sauce? Freak Flag Foods Smoky Red Mustard. The Minnesota made organic master sauces can marinate meats or just serve as a simple dip!
• Super Kale Pesto: a twist on a classic pesto with a hint of jalapeno. Spread on crackers with cheese, stir into hummus or toss with pasta.
• Smoky Red Mustard: spread on burgers and brats, dip fries or pair with pretzels and cheese.
• Zesty Green Herb: basil, cilantro, and a hint of mint.
• Kick’n Curry: add to coconut milk for a quick curry, spread on sandwiches or rub on steaks.

3. R&R Cultivation
These locally harvested mushrooms are grown by Roseville couple, Nick and Sierra Robinson. One cup of sliced gourmet mushrooms has 28 calories and less than one gram of fat. It also contains 3 grams of protein. They’re also full of nutrients like iron, Vitamin D and Antioxidants. Add them to pizzas, spaghetti and your eggs in the morning. Try varieties like Lion’s Mane, Pink Oyster, Pioppino, and Oyster.

4. Mama Kicks
These AUTHENTIC SAUCES AND MARINADES FROM AROUND THE WORLD were created by an Edina woman, Adina Dahlin, because of her love for travel. Her jerk marinade is packed full of Jamaican spices combined with the heat of Scotch Bonnet Peppers, which are locally grown in Cannon Falls. The Berbere Sauce is a blend of Ethopian spices and work well in veggies and stir fry. And the Chimichurri sauce is full of herbs that are great on grilled meats, but taste just as good on your veggies.

5. E Cattle Company
This 90% lean hamburger trim beef sticks come from Deer Park, Wisconsin. They’re high in protein, low in fat, low in sugar and are Gluten Free. You can find these preservative free beef sticks at all Target and HyVee stories across the Twin Cities Metro.
