Chamomile Blueberry Lavender Latte
3 TB freeze dried blueberries
2 tsp chamomile flowers
1/2 tsp lavender buds
1/2 cup heated milk of your choosing.
In a heat proof container (A pint size canning jar works well), place blueberries, chamomile and lavender. Pour 3/4 C boiling water over, lid and steep for 5 minutes. Pour through the strainer into cup, pressing gently on the flower/berry mixture to extract the most color and flavor.
Stir in heated milk and enjoy.
Spiced Pear Vanilla Cider
8 medium pears (d’anjou or bartlett work well) quartered
1 cara cara orange, peeled and quartered with all pith removed
1 3 inch piece of fresh ginger, sliced
2 tsp vanilla bean paste or 1 whole vanilla bean sliced in half
1/3 C maple syrup
Place all ingredients except maple syrup, into a medium sized slow cooker. Add 7 cups water,. cover and cook on high for 4 1/2 hours or on low for 9 hours.
Mash fruits and spices gently about an hour before cook time is up.
Strain through cheesecloth or a fine mesh strainer into a heat proof pitcher. Stir in sweetener to taste. Serve hot or chilled with a slice of fresh pear for garnish.
If served hot, try adding a little bit of whiskey for a real warmer 🙂
White Hot Chocolate with nutmeg and orange
4 C Milk (I am using whole but any variety from any source ie cow, nut, oat etc will do)
1 tsp vanilla bean paste
8 oz white chocolate, chopped into smaller pieces
a few grinds of fresh nutmeg
1 fresh orange for zest
In a medium saucepan add milk, vanilla, white chocolate and nutmeg.
Cook over medium heat, whisking or stirring frequently until all chocolate is melted and beverage is heated through. Don’t let come to a boil.
Pour into mug and top with a vanilla marshmallow, a few zests of fresh orange and a little zest of nutmeg.
