Laurie Crowell, the owner of Golden Fig Fine Foods, shows how a simple syrup can make all the difference in your summer lemonades.
Simple Syrup Recipe
1.5 C cane sugar
1 C water
Bring to a boil, let simmer 3 minutes. Cool, jar and store in fridge. Will keep at least one month.
Variations are endless. You could add 1 TB lavender buds and a pinch of hibiscus petals to the pan and simmer for a lavender syrup. When lilacs are in season, fill a quart size jar with lilac blossoms and a blackberry or two and then pour the hot syrup over, let sit for 20 minutes, strain and refrigerate.
You can use the simple syrups to sweeten lemonades and limeades, make Italian sodas, gussy up a cocktail.
