Good Company: Blue Plate Restaurant Company

TCL in Your Town takes us to Edina, home to a neighborhood restaurant that many of you are probably familiar with. Edina Grill is part of the Blue Plate Restaurant Company which focuses on community-based, neighborhood restaurants. And in this Good Company, Twin Cities Live reporter Kelli Hanson shows us how a couple of 21-year-olds browsing through the classifieds started a Twin Cities restaurant empire. It all began 25-years-ago in 1993 when Stephanie Shimp and David Burley were going to college, working as servers. The two thought the Twin Cities needed a good breakfast spot. So they took a leap and opened their first restaurant, Highland Grill. A few years passed and the two tried it again and again and then again. Now Blue Plate Restaurant Co. has 10 locations, which includes The Blue Barn at the Minnesota State Fair.
