Fried Green Tomatoes

Five Eyewitness News anchor Paul Folger was bragging about his skills making Fried Green Tomatoes so we wanted to see what all the hype was about!

Fried Green Tomatoes

3 to 4 medium to large Green Tomatoes
½ cup of Flour
1 cup of Cornmeal
2 teaspoon of salt
½ teaspoon of black pepper
2 eggs
½ teaspoon of tabasco sauce or Franks Red Hot Sauce
Vegetable oil covering pan to fry about ¼ inch.

Dipping sauce

Ranch or Sriracha/Mayo or Hot Sauce

Heat pan or cast iron skillet with enough oil to cover the bottom of the skillet with about a ¼ inch of oil.

Cut tomatoes ¼ to ½ inch slices across. (I use a mandolin). Then place on a paper towel let sit a minute or two and then flip to dry other side.

Combine Flour, Cornmeal, Salt, Pepper and pour on a plate.

In a small bowl big enough to dip in slices combine eggs and tobacco.

Dip each slice in egg and then drag thru the dry ingredients. Then place in the pan. It will fry 2 to 3 minutes then flip it and cook the other side. When golden brown take off and put on a paper towel to drain sprinkle some salt and pepper on it.  Then serve.

Sauce…. Any ranch dressing or Combine ¼ cup of Mayo and 1 Tablespoon of Sriracha.
