August 25, 2010 Quist Chaos!

Today on Twin Cities Live, Chef Matt Quist was in the house!  Matt has been a guest on the show several times since I have been an intern here, and each time his visits seem to get a little more hectic!  Don’t get me wrong, he’s a fantastic chef and such a wonderful guy, but things seem to get a little chaotic when he’s in the studio!  Last time Matt was here, he was doing a grilling segment outside on the patio.  When it came time to fire up the grill, there were no flames because there wasn’t any propane in the tank…uh-oh! I ran to the nearest gas station hoping to fill up the tank, but they didn’t sell any propane there!  Unfortunately we had to make due without it.  Apparently we didn’t learn our lesson the first time, because we had a mix up with the oysters for his segment today!  Minutes before Matt’s segment was supposed to air, he asked the interns (Natalie and myself) where the oysters in the oven were.

Natalie and I both gave each other puzzled looks because we had no idea what he was talking about!  Apparently he told someone to put them in the oven, and it never happened.  Natalie and I raced to the kitchen with the oysters and threw them in the oven for as long as we could, and then brought them in at the end of the segment, crossing our fingers that they were done enough for John and Elizabeth to taste.  Lucky for us, they were good to go, although I don’t think John was very fond of them anyway.  I can see where he’s coming from, not being a seafood person myself…but charming Matt Quist actually got me to try one and it was pretty darn tasty!  I hope Matt comes back to the studio again soon, and next time I will do my best to make sure that everything is in working order before show time!  STATE FAIR STARTS TOMORROW…SEE YOU THERE!
